Ireland: Republic of Ireland

The Republic of Ireland is a small country located in the north west of Europe. It comprises of 26 of the 32 counties of the island of Ireland. It has the Great Britain as one of its closest neighbors. Other neighbors include Isle of Man, Guernsey, Jersey, Netherlands, Belgium and Faroe Islands. Ireland covers 84, 421 sq. km of land surrounded by water. Speaking of water, Ireland is rich in oceans as it has the Atlantic Ocean to its west, the Celtic Sea to the south, and the Irish Sea separating it from the United Kingdom to the east.

Ireland became free of British rule on December 6th, 1922. It was after the cease-fire talks that led to signing of Anglo-Irish Treaty and it took a period of ten months to handover the governance from a provisional government to the Irish Free State.

Capital of Ireland

Although each city of Ireland has its own charm but when we talk about this beautiful country, we are always reminded of what a great place Dublin is. It is the largest city and the capital of the Republic of Ireland. The population of Dublin is 1.2M as of 2020 after a 1.07% increase since 2019. Dublin is rich in culture and hosts students and migrants from around the globe.
